Equal Voice

Support for Women's Visibility in Media

Ringier Serbia harnesses its strength and influence through the international initiative EqualVoice, which we joined in May 2023. Ringier AG launched EqualVoice to increase the visibility and professional presence of women in the media.

"EqualVoice" aims to reduce the gender visibility gap in terms of the representation of men and women in the media, which can be observed globally, as eight out of 10 media texts are about men according to the Global Media Monitoring Project analysis from 2016. To address this, Ringier AG developed a semantic algorithm – the Equal Voice factor – which measures the representation of women and men in online reports. The initiative was initiated by Annabella Bassler, CFO of Ringier AG, and in Ringier Serbia, Jelena Isaković, Director of Publishing at Ringier Serbia, leads this initiative.

About the Founder of the Equal Voice Initiative

Dr. Annabella Bassler, CFO of Ringier AG since 2012 and a member of its Executive Board, initiated and launched the Equal Voice Initiative, with the goal of promoting gender equality and higher visibility of women in media texts. The core of the Equal Voice Initiative is the EqualVoice Factor, an algorithm that measures women’s representation in news articles. From 2014 to 2021, Dr. Bassler led Ringier’s operations in Romania, transforming it into a profitable and modern media company. She is a member of the board of directors of several companies, including Ticketcorner AG, Ringier Axel Springer Schweiz AG, Ringier Axel Springer Polska sp. z o.o., and Hallenstadion AG. The Equal Voice Initiative includes a range of activities, with the Equal Voice Summit being one of the most notable. This is an annual exclusive event that brings together top executives from the international and Swiss business and media sectors in order to encourage constructive dialogue on gender equality in media. Notable speakers at the event have included global stars and prominent figures in the fight for equality, such as human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and singer Anastacia.
